With a prominent military career of 40 years and five major wars Field Marshal Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji Manekshaw, MC (3 April 1914 – 27 June 2008), popularly known as Sam Bahadur (“Sam the Brave”) was no doubt one of the most renowned military men from India.

Sam Bahadur became the 8th Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army in 1969. Under his command only India won the 1971 war with Pakistan which also et to  liberation of Bangladesh. Manekshaw has been awarded with Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan for his service to the nation.
