Blade in air india flight meal

Airlines are essential to the modern world since they are the main conduits for international connectivity. They make it possible for people and things to travel quickly across continents. However, airlines frequently come under fire for the quality of services they provide. One of the most common issues we hear about is the low quality of food served on flights. Typically, airline meals are made in bulk to feed hundreds of travelers. The food’s quality and freshness may suffer as a result of this mass production.

Even though these things can be resolved quickly, a blade in food may have different consequences. Imagine how alarmed a traveler would be if he or she discovered even a tiny metal object in their food. So, a blade in a meal has the caliber to spark a large controversy. A similar kind of incident recently happened when a passenger found a blade in his in-flight meal. The controversy became so big that it was reported by various reputable publications. Alas, Air India has to respond to it.

A passenger found a blade in an in-flight meal

Recently, a passenger on an Air India flight from Bengaluru to San Francisco reported discovering a metal blade within his in-flight meal. Journalist Mathures Paul shared his experience on social media last week while traveling on an Air India AI 175 aircraft.

In his post on X, Paul said that he felt a bit of metal in his lips while savoring his roasted sweet potato and fig chaat during his journey. Examining it, he discovered it was a metal blade. Paul emphasized the grave repercussions of the mistake, raising the question of what might have occurred if a child had been served the lunch. In his post, he also shared pictures of the blade along with his meal. Captioning the post, he wrote,

“Air India food can cut like a knife. Hiding in its roasted sweet potato and fig chaat was a metal piece that looked like a blade. I got a feel of it only after chewing the grub for a few seconds. Thankfully, no harm was done. Of course, the blame squarely lies with Air India’s catering service but the incident doesn’t help the image I have of Air India. What if the metal piece was in the food served to a child? First picture shows the metal piece that I spat out and the second picture shows the meal before it put metal into my life. @airindia”

How did Air India react to the incident?

In response to Paul’s tweet, Air India replied,

“Dear Mr. Paul, we are sorry to know about this. This does not represent the level of service we aim to provide to our passengers. Please DM us your booking details along with your seat number. We’ll ensure this matter is promptly reviewed and addressed.”

According to the reports, following the incident, Air India got in touch with the traveler and made an offer of a one-way business class ticket that could be used for up to a year on any Air India aircraft. However, Paul turned down the offer, calling the action a “bribe.” The airline said that the blade belonged to a machine that its caterer used to slice vegetables.
Speaking to ANI, Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer of Air India, said,

“Air India confirms that a foreign object was found in the meal of a guest aboard one of our flights. After investigation, it has been identified as coming from the vegetable processing machine used at the facilities of our catering partner.”

Meanwhile, this is not the first time Air India has been under fire for its in-flight services. While airlines continue to innovate and improve in-flight dining experiences, these culinary drawbacks remain a significant challenge. So, addressing these culinary drawbacks is very important for changing the persona of the airways.
